Update: Man Killed By NJ Transit Train Near Jersey Shore Station

A man died when he was struck by a New Jersey Transit train in Red Bank, officials said.

The pedestrian was hit by a southbound North Jersey Coast Line train No. 3241 at the Monmouth Street crossing at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, an NJ Transit spokesperson said. The crossing is next to the Red Bank transit station.

The train left New York Penn Station at 12:12 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Long Branch at 1:45 p.m. None of the 25 passengers or crew on the train were injured.

North Jersey Coast Line service was suspended in both directions due to the crash. Trains were running "on or close to schedule" by around 7:20 p.m.

NJ Transit police were leading the investigation.
